Born in Kolkata (Calcutta) in 1980, Kaushiki Chakrabarty seems destined for a long and dazzling career. Her vocal talents first surfaced at the age of two and it was nurtured by her parents who were renowned artists in their own right. Kaushiki interprets classical Indian music styles from both the Hindustani tradition of the North and the Carnatic interpretations of the South. Her fourth release Pure bagged her a BBC World Music Award in 2005. Two years later, the singer brought out a sumptuous triple-CD, once again guided by her father and guru, the illustrious Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
